Project Description
The project consisted of the expansion and reinforcement of the Carnival cruise terminal in Roatan, Mahogany Bay Cruise Terminal. The main work consisted in the reinforcement of the structure by a system of beams after the original pier, connected to a new piling system to guarantee the rigidity of the entire structure. As additional works, 4 dolphins were built for the larger cruise ships that would arrive after the works and thus increase the berthing capacity of the dock.
Solution
The main problem layed in the oscillations that the dock had when the cruise ships docked, each time there were larger cruise ships and therefore the movement of the dock increased. The solution consisted of the structural reinforcement of the existing dock by a new system of piles, prefabricated beams and civil works that absorbed the impact of the docking of the cruise ships. In addition, several structures were built to allow expansion of the docking area for cruise ships.
