Project Description
The Puerto Quetzal Container Terminal planned the construction of its structures in an area with soils with high technical requirements. That is why Rodio Swissboring with his extensive experience in the field of geotechnics proposed a construction methodology that allowed the correct execution of the foundations of this project.
Solution
The foundations in the Puerto Quetzal Container Terminal project were made through the construction of 1,000mm diameter rotary piles. These had a maximum depth of 45 meters, since they had to transmit the load of the structures to competent ground strata. Because the upper strata of the terrain consisted of collapsible sands, it was necessary to use a method to stabilize the drilling. Therefore, it was decided to use recoverable liners + drilling muds to guarantee the correct execution of the foundation piles.
