Project Description

Marina del Sur is a tourist complex located on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. This project consists of the subdivision of ± 300 lots, 3 hotels, a clubhouse, lagoons, artificial channels and a sea mouth that allows free access to sailboats and other small boats.

Solution

The works consisted of protecting the sea mouth and the canal by building two sea walls approximately 600 meters long. These sea walls have two main purposes:

  • Avoid the sedimentation of fines in the channel due to littoral hauling.
  • Reduce the swell within the channel, to allow the navigation of small boats.

For the construction of both sea walls, large capacity cranes were used both for the placement of rocks greater than 3 tons and for the “Core Loc” units of 3.1 and 13.4 Tons.
