Project Description
Since Costa Rica is not a hydrocarbon-producing country, the supply of fuels is carried out through importation, either in the form of crude oil, intermediate products or finished products. Puerto Moín arises from the need for port infrastructure for the importation of hydrocarbons, consequently the Duques de Alba dock is built in the Caribbean Oil Terminal for the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE).
Solution
The Duques de Alba pier was supported on deep driven metal pile foundations up to 45m in length. The bathymetry of the site presented depths of up to 17m, for this reason it was necessary to implement the use of a main barge (36mx14m) for the crane and driving equipment and, in addition, an auxiliary barge (36mx14m) to transport the metal piles.
